New Orleans-born guitarist Davy Mooney is loaded with technique and taste--otherwise, how could he record with the fine jazz guitarist (also singer, though not here) John Pizzarelli? While Pizzarelli has recorded and performed many standards, this set finds him doing business differently. Only four songs are standards in the usual sense; the program also includes gems by Pat Metheny, Duke Ellington, and Antonio Carlos Jobim, along with a few originals. TRAIN is two guitar aces--no one else--with mutual rapport engaging in some playfully complex, exhilarating duo performances.
